Enjoy Evita? Try these six plays next! PDF Print E-mail

2014 Drama

Following the smash hit TY musical "Evita", the school has six more plays in production!

The three Junior Drama Clubs are hard at work on their entries for the Cork Youth Dramafest, and the TY Drama classes are soon to begin work on theirs.

This year's Senior Drama Club are attempting their most ambitious production yet: a full-length play titled "Mister Burns", set in 2025, after Ireland has been devastated by nuclear disaster. The only thing that the few survivors share in common is memories of old episodes of the Simpsons ... and unsurprisingly, it's the nuclear power plant owner, who is at the centre of the stories they tell.

The play will be directed by Mr Burke and Caitlin Kelly (5th Year), with assistance from ex-students Safan McGrath (musical director) and Garvan Peck (fight scene choreography).

Can Colaiste Choilm win the Cork Youth Dramafest Senior Section for a sixth consecutive year? Time will tell, but what's certain is that a lot of fun and hard work will be put into trying to win it again ...

Coláiste Choilm History Week
November 24th-28th 2014

Seachtain na Staire
Samhain 24ú -28ú 2014

From November 24th to the 28th  Colaiste Choilm History Department organised its first History Week in the school. There were two exhibitions held, these were displays detailing the beginnings of the Great War and Corks links to it. Junior students took part in a poster competition and students from every year group attended an interactive presentation in Halla Phadraig. These presentations were facilitated by Johnny Hanrahan of Janus Arts Company in conjunction with Cork City Library. It was entitled 1914 :The Recruiting Sergeant, it is  a project based on Library Exhibitions concerned with the first six months of the Great War. It had musical and dramatic elements of which some of our students and teachers performed in. Colaiste Choilm was the first school to host this new initiative. Cork City Librarian Liam Ronayne and UCC History lecturer Gabriel Doherty attended during the week. The week was a very fitting commemoration to what was a exceptionally important time in History.
